1) Have you learned anything new since beginning the year? If so, what concepts have been new? If not, have you improved in your understanding of these concepts?
2) Does the instructor use a wide range of activities to both investigate topics and demonstrate knowledge? What have been your favourite and least favourite activities?
3) Do you feel challenged in this course? If so, how are you being challenged? If not, why do you think that is? What improvements could be made in class to better challenge you or aid your understanding?
1. Probability was new to me from the beginning of the year, and now I know a lot about probability.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, the instructor, Mr Jobe, does use a wide range of activities that help me to understand and investigate topics. My favourite activity is equations in the algebra unit since I know a lot about algebra already from tuition.
3. I felt challenged during the probability unit but not so much on the algebra. Improvements could be having the extension at grade 8 level to really challenge ourselves and help our grades.
1) Yes, I have. I had previously never learnt probability, let alone any of the topics part of that unit. Inequalities are also a new concept I hadn’t been introduced to before.
ReplyDelete2) Yes, Mr Jobe uses a variety of activities. I personally like the individual questions on the board and the sheets that involve solving really cheesy jokes. I don’t really like the activities that involve having to not only answer the questions, but also to solve many other topics. The worksheets that only involve questions to answer are my favorite as they are step by step.
3) I do feel challenged, and I think we should have more worksheets/stand alone questions rather than group activities. The probability unit was slightly easier to understand personally compared to the algebra unit.
I have learned quite a bit of new things since the beginning of the year. I used to be absolutely terrible with probability and I had no idea what to do but now I am very comfortable with making tree diagrams, calculating probability and figuring out what I have a better chance in when making decisions. I have improved immensely in the understanding of these concepts.
ReplyDeleteI think Mr Jobe is a very good math teacher because we do things ranging from playing games to help us learn or to doing harder worksheets which make us focus more. My favorite activity so far has actually been the probability test. I know it’s a weird thing to like but when I did I actually really enjoyed it. If I had done the test before we learnt it this year, I would definitely have flunked it. I also really enjoyed the probability fair. My least favourite activity would have to be the probability write up just because I was stressing slightly and forgot to add things into it. Plus I write very slowly which did not help!
I am not feeling as comfortable doing inequalities because I get confused with the ways the sign face because when I was younger I was taught a different way. I think that the only thing that I myself could improve in class is by taking loads more notes during math.
1) Yes, the whole probability unit and the inequalities in algebra.
ReplyDelete2) Yes, we had small activities such as playing with the dice and playing different types of games with our partner, and the main activity was the probability fair. My favourite activity was the probability because I got to try different types of games. My least favourite activity were the complicated inequalities.
3) Yes, I feel challenged in this course as there are many different types of hard questions that we had to solve so far. Something that could be improved could be how the explaining part of question could take a bit longer so that I could understand the problems clearer.
I have learned a lot about inequalities that I didn’t know before, and I learned how it connects to algebra. I learned about writing inequalities, as I knew almost nothing about inequalities before this. I also learned a lot about probability, like learning how to calculate it, and lots of the things we have learned this year have been new to me. I didn’t know anything at all about tree diagrams or sample spaces before starting probability, and now I feel confident doing them. I have learned a lot of new things so far during this year.
ReplyDeleteMr. Jobe does use a lot of different variations, from worksheets on paper and online, to collaborative work on the board, and shared keynotes and websites that we work on. I like doing some work on the board, and I like when we do games and practical work that are fun and at the same time enhance our understanding. I don’t much like the worksheets where they just ask you a question and ask you to answer them, I like sheets like The Inequaliser where you see how the topic we are learning can apply to the real world.
I do feel challenged sometimes, but in a good way. It’s not that I can’t do the work, but some problems are more complex than others, which is good practice. I am not challenged too much, but not everything is very easy, so it is a good balance between easy and hard.
1) I have learned a lot more in probability and improved my understanding. I am also starting to understand inequalities better as I didn't know how to do it before.
ReplyDelete2) Yes, I liked playing games to help learn. We go through them on the board to make sure everybody understands. My favourite activity was probability and one of my less favourite were complicated inequalities.
3) Sometimes I feel challenged by learning things I didn't know before such as inequalities. I have improved my understanding in probability. I liked the probability unit better than the algebra.
I have learned many things about Probability and a little bit about algebra since the start of the year, and this class, for me has been a great one. The main thing that I have learned about Probability are the differences between experimental and theoretical probability, and various probability skills like tree diagrams. I think the other thing that I learnt in this class is how to manage a stall. The lesson learnt from the probability fair is to DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF.
ReplyDeleteMr. Jobe, in my opinion, is a great teacher because he uses a variety of techniques to further our learning more than it already is. For example, he often uses practical work to help us understand a topic more, he always gives us a full brief on the topic, and is always asking if we don’t understand.
I feel this class has a good pace for me, as I am constantly learning new things, but to the point where I am baffled with the topics. I like using Practical learning, so if I were to ask anything, I would ask for more practical work and using skills in a real life situation. A constant question of maths is when people need to use it, and with this kind of practical teaching, this question need no longer exist.
1) I have learnt many new things since the beginning of the year. I have learnt the most from the probability unit since I have not learnt probability before. I have learnt how to draw tree diagrams learnt about experimental and theoretical probability.
ReplyDelete2. In the Algebra unit, I have learnt the most about inequalities. I have learnt inequalities before, but I have learnt how to solve them now.
I enjoy working problems out on the whiteboards the most. I feel challenged to do these problems in limited time, which makes it fun as well.
In class, we play a lot of games such as ‘Snakes and Ladders’ to learn more about topics. We also do harder worksheets to help us learn more.
3. I feel relatively challenged in this class and I feel that this helps me learn. I can explore new topics and gain more understanding. I am being challenged by doing harder problems within topics. I can learn more by reflecting about what I have learnt.
I have learn quite a few things from the start of the year, such as how to not flip an inequality sign and still find the answer.
ReplyDeleteWhen we started learning about inequalities I was completely lost and didn’t understand a lot of things, but as we moved on I started getting better at inequalities, and now I find it quite easy.
I think Mr.Jobe teaches has a lot of fun activities that help us learn a lot of new things. I think one of my favorite games would be from the probability unit when we made our game and played it against our table partners.
I think some of the topics we learn are challenging while others are quite easy, I think if there could be extensions in our class for topics we find easy such as algebra than we would learn a lot more new things that we never knew before
From the beginning of the year I have learned lots of new things and most of the concepts we have studied so far have been quite new to me and I have tried to use some of my previous maths knowledge in other areas to help me out. I have been able to learn from not only the teacher but also my classmates who have been able to help me if I were to get stuck. I have improved a lot in probability which I had never looked at before and got a result on the test and write-up that I could be proud of. I was able to get this result not only through classwork but through lots of revision as well. This year I have been able to learn a lot through the help of my teacher and have felt supported. Mr. Jobe has aided me when I felt that some of the work was very challenging and he helped me to develop through that. So far my favourite activity this year has been the probability fair and not only actually doing but also get prepared for it and coming up with an idea. This year I have felt that if there was something I didn't understand or I felt troubled I could approach Mr. Jobe. I have felt challenged in this course so far and but it has been manageable. I am being challenged with mainly the concepts are new to me and being able to handle the different things with accuracy, speed and fluency.
ReplyDeleteHalf Term Reflection
ReplyDeleteI have learned a lot of things during the half term. I especially learned a lot during the algebra unit. I got to learn about inequalities even more than I did before. I used to only know what they meant however, I can make inequalities and solve equations with inequalities inside. I also improved on my algebra skills. I got to practice making equations which I was not quite good at, and now I am an expert at it!
Mr. Jobe uses many printed worksheets with jokes or riddles we need to solve. In order to solve these jokes/riddles, you must solve equations or answer questions. I enjoy them because I like to solve or answer questions for a prize. When we’re done, Mr. Jobe always explains the whole sheets to us in comprehendible words. My favourite activity are the worksheets because the jokes are usually extremely funny but difficult to understand.
I feel challenged however I can understand many of the things we do in class. Even if I don’t understand, Mr. Jobe explains it to all of us so we all understand. An improvement that can be made is that we have more homework because we currently don’t have any.
I feel like I learnt quite a lot since the beginning of the year, for example, I learnt about the rule where you have to flip the inequality sign when dividing with a negative number. The unit that I learnt most in was inequalities in the algebra unit since I was not that familiar with it.
ReplyDeleteYes, Mr. Jobe used a wide range of activities, for example, he used games, fun worksheets and interactive programs. I enjoyed pretty much everything and I hope to do these activities again.
I sometimes feel challenged in this course but I rather be even more challenged with the topics that I like. I don’t think Mr. Jobe could improve on his teaching because he is already a great job.
I have learned many things since the beginning of the year. This includes inequalities and how to solve them, how to make a tree diagram, how to calculate the probability of a game, how to solve an algebraic equation with a variable on both sides and improving on solving probability word problems.
ReplyDeleteOur teacher does use a wide range of activities from online questions to worksheets to games. My favourite activities have been the worksheets because they are fun and they teach concepts. I haven't had a least favourite activity.
I do feel challenged because I am always learning new things. I think if we did more interactive activities it might help with understanding things more.
Half-Term Reflection
ReplyDelete1) Yes, I have learned about the concepts of probability and inequalities. I learned about how to write and solve inequalities and how to find out probabilities using tree-diagrams and sample spaces.
2) Yes, he does. My favorite activity was when we went up to the board and played “Splat” and my least favorite was when we had to try to solve a puzzle that couldn’t be solved
3) I don’t really feel challenged on this course. I think this is because I already know most of this stuff, I just have forgotten about it and this just resurfaces the information. I think I could be better challenged if we learned stuff that was different and did problems about it but made you think about the stuff you have already learned.
1) Yes, I have learnt new things since the beginning of the year. I have expanded my knowledge about inequalities and how to solve them, I have also learnt a lot about probability and distinguishing between unfair and fair events.
ReplyDelete2) Yes both do investigate topics and demonstrate knowledge. The probability fair played a big part in helping me understand probability more. My favorite activities have been solving word problems, puzzles and playing (math) games (of course). My least favorite was doing the ‘Which Spinners’ activity (mainly because I didn’t understand).
3) Yes I do feel challenged, but it is manageable. Most of the things I am being taught are stuff that I haven’t learnt before so it is like starting afresh. Usually I find myself not understanding new concepts as quickly as I would like myself to but what usually helps me understand better is not just the concept but also why it works. E.g when you multiply / divide negative numbers you have to flip the inequality, I want to know why we do that and why it works.
This half-term, I have learnt how to calculate probability. I have learnt how to draw tree diagrams and sample spaces, experimental and theoretical probability. In the algebra unit, using mostly inequalities, learnt how to draw graphs. Overall I have definitely improved my understanding of these two topics.
ReplyDeleteMr. Jobe does use a wide range of activities to investigate and demonstrate knowledge. I enjoyed all the fun activities in class. I enjoyed more of the activities that we did in the probability unit.
I felt challenged in this course because most of the things that we have learnt are all very new to me. This might be because I do not take extra tuition and did not go into these topics with much detail last year. In this class, everything has been clearly explained to me and I do find it challenging, but I think I can cope with it.
I have learned a lot since the beginning of the year. I think I learned the most in the Algebra Unit (Inequalities). I had learned a bit about it before, but I think I really strengthened my understanding about it and understand it a lot better now. I also strengthened my understanding on factorising, expanding and the algebraic vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteMr Jobe uses a wide range of activities to both investigate topics and demonstrate knowledge. My favourite activity has been when we played “Splat”, and my least favourite activity was when we played the puzzle, which turned out to not work.
I feel challenged sometimes on this course, but not a lot. I feel challenged sometimes on the extensions. I think we could have some more challenging activities sometimes.
